The College of Accounting Sciences is proud to announce that two of its academics, Jennifer Muteba and Jacques van Staden, both from the Department of Management Accounting, have been recognised on the global stage at the Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) Accounting Educator Awards 2025, hosted by the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants (AICPA) and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).

In a competition that drew more than 530 applications and nominations from across North Asia, Asia Pacific, Europe and Africa, the achievements of Muteba and Van Staden stand as a clear indication of the calibre and quality of Unisa’s accounting lecturers, who continue to demonstrate that they can compete at the highest international level.

Muteba, a Lecturer in the Department of Management Accounting, received the CGMA Diversity and Inclusion Global Gold Award, an honour reserved for educators who embed inclusive practices and create transformational learning opportunities for disadvantaged communities. Her recognition highlights the global significance of her dedication to promoting equity and empowerment within the accounting profession.

Jacques van Staden, a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Management Accounting, was awarded the CGMA Innovation Global Silver Award. This prestigious award recognises educators spearheading pioneering initiatives that deliver a sustained impact on student learning. His work reflects Unisa’s dedication to innovation and its reputation for academic excellence.

Jan Taylor, CPA, CGMA, PhD, Senior Director of Academic and Student Engagement at AICPA and CIMA, emphasised the significance of such recognition: "We are delighted to recognise passionate educators from around the world who have dedicated themselves to nurturing and developing curious, driven young accounting and finance talent. Day after day, they inspire their students to explore the many possibilities within the accounting and finance profession, support them to build technical and business skills, and grow their confidence as future professionals. It is an honour to celebrate their contributions to the profession and its future."

The success of Muteba and Van Staden demonstrates that Unisa’s lecturers are not only leaders within South Africa but are also globally respected for their excellence, innovation and inclusivity. Their achievements affirm the university’s position as a world-class institution producing educators of international standing.

Unisa congratulates Muteba and Van Staden for this prestigious recognition, which reflects both their personal commitment to excellence and the College of Accounting Sciences’ strength in shaping the global future of accounting education.
