Students engaging with exhibitors and exploring career opportunities
The College of Accounting Sciences, together with the Department of Counselling and Career Development, Gauteng Region, recently hosted an Accounting Career Day at the Kgorong Building, where students had the opportunity to engage with various companies. The event brought together a wide range of leading professional bodies and accounting organisations, all committed to guiding and inspiring the next generation of finance professionals.
The event served as a valuable platform for students to explore various pathways within the accounting profession. Representatives from prominent organisations such as the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA), the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), the Independent Regulatory Board for Auditors (IRBA), the South African Institute of Government Auditors (SAIGA), the Institute of Internal Auditors South Africa (IIA SA), and the Chartered Institute for Business Accountants (CIBA), were present.
Each organisation hosted informative stalls, where students could engage directly with industry professionals. These interactions provided insight into different career streams, qualification requirements and professional development opportunities within the accounting and auditing fields. Students were also able to ask questions, gather information and gain clarity on the steps needed to pursue their desired career paths.
One of the highlights of the event was the diversity of career options presented. The attendees were exposed to a broad spectrum of specialisations, from chartered accountancy and internal auditing to government auditing and business accounting. This helped students better understand the dynamic nature of the accounting profession and the various roles they can aspire to.
The event also emphasised the importance of professional accreditation and continuous learning. Representatives encouraged students to remain committed to their studies and to consider joining professional bodies that align with their career goals. These organisations not only offer certification but also provide ongoing support, networking opportunities and access to industry resources.
Overall, the Accounting Career Day was a resounding success. It provided students with valuable exposure to the professional world, bridging the gap between academic learning and real-world application. Events like these play a crucial role in empowering students to make informed career decisions and step confidently into the future of the accounting profession.
