Towards the leading College of Law and Justice in Africa
Rumaanah Gani and Prof Mpfariseni Budeli-Nemakonde (Executive Dean, Unisa, College of Law)
Unisa’s College of Law (CLAW) is proud to celebrate its outstanding LLB student Rumaanah Gani, after she was recently awarded the Top Student Johannes Voet Bar Medal by the Pretoria Society of Advocates – an inspirational and monumental feat.
Growing up in the south of Johannesburg, Gani embarked on a journey of legal studies that proved to be both challenging and deeply rewarding. Despite the challenges that she experienced over the years, she persevered and demonstrated exceptional commitment and intellectual curiosity, which culminated in a remarkable academic record.
For Gani, one of her academic highlights was when she achieved an outstanding score in the Intellectual Property Law module, which is testament to her academic resilience and dedication.
Reflecting on her journey, Gani shares: "I am humbled and honoured to have received the Johannes Voet Bar Medal. It was also an immense honour being surrounded by distinguished judges and members of the Pretoria Bar." She adds: "This symbolic experience encourages me to rise to the standard that they represent and carry that expectation into the next chapter of my journey."
CLAW and Unisa at large are proud of Gani’s achievement, an accolade reserved for graduates who exemplify South Africa’s academic excellence and the professional promise that the country has to offer. This medal has been awarded to some of South Africa’s respected legal minds, which makes it even more significant.
Congratulations, Rumaanah. Your diligence and commitment to excellence and devotion to improving society have set a high standard, and we look forward to witnessing the impact you will make in the legal profession.
