Ntokozo Pamela Mathabathe

Determination, resilience, and a passion for education have defined the academic journey of Ntokozo Pamela Mathabathe, whose recent graduation on 4 June 2026 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education (BEd) intermediate phase reflects not only academic excellence but also a commitment to student leadership and community development.

As a prospective educator, student leader, and advocate for quality education, Mathabathe has consistently demonstrated that leadership and learning can go hand in hand. Her educational journey, culminating in a BEd, has been driven by a firm belief in the transformative power of education to change lives and strengthen communities.

Throughout her studies, she embraced numerous opportunities to serve the student community while pursuing her academic goals. She made history by becoming the first female President of the Unisa College of Education Students' Association (CEDUSA). This milestone reflects her dedication to breaking barriers and creating opportunities for future student leaders. In addition, she serves as the Deputy Secretary of the Tshwane Regional Student Representative Council (RSRC), where she continues to advocate for students' interests and well-being.

These leadership roles have equipped her with valuable experience in governance, service, and representation, while reinforcing her commitment to educational excellence and personal growth.

Mathabathe's decision to pursue her qualification was inspired by her passion for education and her desire to contribute meaningfully to improving teaching and learning. After completing her Bachelor of Education in the Intermediate Phase, she developed a strong interest in curriculum development, educational research, and understanding the factors that influence learner achievement. This passion motivated her to further her studies and deepen her knowledge to make a lasting impact in the education sector.

Reflecting on her academic journey, Mathabathe credits the university for helping her develop essential life skills beyond the classroom. Studying through Unisa instilled in her a culture of independence, resilience, and discipline, qualities that enabled her to thrive in an online learning environment despite the challenges she encountered.

She also took full advantage of the university's training workshops and student support initiatives, ensuring that she acquired the knowledge, competencies and practical skills needed to navigate online assessments and academic responsibilities successfully.

For students considering a similar academic path, Mathabathe offers words of encouragement rooted in her own experiences. She believes that while higher education presents challenges, it also opens doors to personal growth, professional advancement, and lifelong learning.

She encourages students to remain focused on their aspirations, approach every challenge with perseverance, and never lose sight of their purpose. According to Mathabathe, “success is built through dedication, consistency, and resilience, with every obstacle you overcome, this necessary knowledge development process contributes to greater confidence and personal development”.

She further urges students to embrace every opportunity to learn, seek support when needed, and believe in their ability to achieve their goals. For her, education remains one of the most powerful tools for transforming lives, and investing in one's academic journey is ultimately an investment in a brighter future.

As she continues to excel academically while championing student leadership, she stands as an inspiring example of how determination, service, and a passion for education can create lasting impact both within the university community and beyond.
