The Unisa KwaZulu-Natal Region's counselling team
The Unisa KwaZulu-Natal Region’s Counselling and Career Development Unit successfully hosted its annual Career Fair from 16 to 17 April 2026, attracting enthusiastic participation from students and employers around the province.
The event provided students with the opportunity to interact directly with recruiters from various sectors to explore a wide range of career pathways. Exhibitors presented opportunities aimed at supporting students' transition from academic life to the work environment, spanning fields such as engineering, finance, and law.
The students came prepared and eager to make a positive impression. Most of them benefited from on-site career support services, including guidance on navigating the job market, interview preparation, and curriculum vitae evaluations. Both undergraduate students preparing to enter the workforce and postgraduates seeking employment opportunities found these services valuable.
Employers also welcomed the opportunity to engage with a diverse upcoming talent pool. Representatives provided insights into their organisations' values, graduate programmes, and recruitment processes while also outlining the qualities that prospective candidates must possess. Meaningful interactions beyond what standard programmes can offer were made possible through in-person contact.
The event also fostered a sense of purpose and confidence among participants. Most students appreciated the opportunity to physically interact with industry professionals to seek guidance and clarification on their career aspirations.
For Zuziwe Mhlane, Unisa’s Student Counsellor and event organiser, the successful event was marked by strong attendance and positive feedback from both students and employers.
The Counselling and Career Development Unit continues to play a vital role in enhancing student achievement and employability in the KwaZulu-Natal Province by creating an environment that fosters interaction, learning, and opportunities.
