The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) for the SRC Election 2026 officially announces the outcome of the nomination and registration of structures/organisations that applied to participate in the Unisa SRC 2026 Election.
The call for nominations and registrations for the SRC Election 2026 was called/announced by the IEC in line with the SRC Constitution and Electoral Policy of 2017 as approved by Council. The Electoral Policy section 2.7 stipulates the following:
All student organisations willing to participate in the election must register with the IEC and provide the following:
2.7.1 the constitution of the student organisation
2.7.2 the list of its executive committee members with contact details
2.7.3 a handwritten list of registered students with their student numbers and signatures appended in supporting the student organisation to participate in the elections. The list must contain a minimum of 100 students’ names and student numbers in support of the organisation and
2.7.4 all students’ organisations participating in the elections shall sign a declaration of good conduct to ensure the accomplishment of free and fair elections.
A service provider for the SRC electronic voting system developed an Electronic Registration and Nomination system which all interested student structures/organisations used to register their structures and upload all documents listed above. The system was live from 26 November 2025 to 12 December 2025. The IEC further extended the registration and nomination period to 16 December 2025, whereafter the system was closed.
After a report compilation was concluded by EISA towards the end of December 2025, the report was sent to external auditors to undertake their due diligence and provide feedback which the IEC has received. The IEC then considered all the findings made by the auditors and arrived at the announcement of structures who met the requirement to submit a list of 100 supporters as indicated below.
