Sandra Thulisile Bulunga receives a laptop device from the Unisa Principal and Vice Chancellor, Prof Puleng LenkaBula
Sandra Thulisile Bulunga is from Kabokweni, in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga, but she currently lives in Pretoria. She has been studying for a BA in Business Administration, since 2017.
She says she had a laptop, but it was stolen and, as a result, did not have one at the onset of the COVID-19 lockdown. “The laptop has come as a gift, which will help me conduct my research better. It is well appreciated.”
Sandra had to rely on other means to connect to the internet, like going to her husband’s car workshop to use the computers there. “I also used my phone to connect to study groups on Teams.”
“With the laptop, I will teach myself how technology works. I will grow in computer literacy. I will be completing my degree next year, as I was not taking a lot of courses,” she says.
In the meantime, between her studies, Sandra is raising a family. “I was so excited to share the news of the new laptop. Now my family knows that education pays.”
Sandra says that she also has a side hustle and sells clothes in a small shop in White River, Mpumalanga. Managing a business is a skill she learnt while growing up, when she sold fat cakes from home.
“I am trying to do so much with the time I have. It is unbelievable that my academic performance was recognised by the university. Thank you Unisa.”
